
The finals of the Japanese Speech Contest were held on the 13th of July at the Japanese Association, Singapore. The contest was organized by Embassy of Japan in Singapore, The Japanese Cultural Society, Singapore, The Japanese Association Singapore, Japan Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Singapore and The Japanese University Graduates Association of Singapore. In total there were fifty five participants who participated in various categories of the contest. Winners of each category of the speech contest received attractive prizes such as the Japanese Association, Singapore President’s Cup as well as a homestay in Japan with a return air ticket.
Participants of the speech contest spoke for a couple of minutes on their given topic which differed depending on the category that the students were placed in. When asked, one participant from the open category mentioned that she spent hours each night practicing in front of the mirror. Others even mentioned getting their Japanese friends to help them with their pronunciation. All in all it was an interesting contest which displayed the skills and fluency of their Japanese language ability.
